We met one of his clients - also from Portland - and had a western style buffet breakfast at the Kathmandu Guesthouse. The client had just finished a trek to Everest base camp and was heading home this afternoon. He worked in product development for Intel.
Walked around some, then had a half-assed cab ride home - I opened my door and acted like I was getting out of the cab - while it was moving - while Andy dickered with the driver over $2.00 of the fare.
I could have cared less about a buck..........
There was a demonstration - peaceful - that blocked the road to Bhaktapur. We got out of the cab, paid 80% of the agreed fare ($6.00) and then walked past the protesters and the caught a bus that cost $0.20, then walked 1/2 mile into Bhaktapur.
The Kathmandu Guest House is famous because there was a visit by the Beatles in the 1960's. I walked down the hallway where they stayed.
A very nice place, by any standard.
We were back in Bhaktur by noon.
