Mandy holding my Walkabout card......
Amanda, or Mandy, is on her second iTrek tour. The first was with her husband, last year, when they went most of the way to the Nepali Everest base camp. They stopped before they made it to the base camp, a day or two beyond Namche Bazar.
She wanted to make it all the way, so she left her husband and three kids - the oldest is a soccer loving boy of 10.....and came to Nepal for 5 weeks while her hubby minds the kids back home in Virginia.
I met her when I met Andy this AM. Mandy wanted to come to Thamel to shop for some hiking shoes and to get a tatoo. We rode together with our guide in the van to Thamel, toured the Budhist Stupa, then had lunch together before she returned to Bhaktapour and her trek departure tomorrow.
At lunch we talked about clothing and gear. She brought enough clothing for three people. I counseled her on minimizing, using multi-functional clothing, etc., but she still insisted she needed almost 100 pounds of stuff. I brought about 35 pounds for my 101 days, but I will pick up another 10 or 15 pounds of cold weather clothes for the overland trip to Tibet and for my trek in November. It will be below freezing at night.
40 or so, Mandy has a very understanding and supportive husband, I would say.
Happy trails, Mandy!!
