Booked a ride in a minbus, south down to Vientiane, the capital city for 40,000 Kip, or $5.00.
The pickup point was next door to the guesthouse with the killer view, the Grandview Guest House. It was a grand view.
Carried my backpack all of 50 feet to the pickup point....ordered a fruit smoothie for $0.65 and I was ready to hit the road.
Again was able to snag the passenger seat, but was not alone - a young blonde from England had the jump seat between me and the driver. Her boyfriend sat in back. I put on headphones and watched the world go by for the 3-4 hour ride.
Getting the front seat is well worth the effort. Great views to the front and side, a window if it gets hot, and you can see something before impact, which we never had...but we came close.
I just had to take a pic of the toilet paper. Almost went to the office and asked for men's instead of women's paper.
Arrived in Vientiane - it is a large city. There was traffic, roadside shops and stores for many miles before we hit the central city. Again, found a tuktuk and asked to be taken to the waterfront, on the Mekong. Found a guest house after a 100 foot walk, checked it out then moved in. No view like Vang Vieng....
Went to the night market and saw several things I liked, but did not buy anything. Will hit it again tomorrow night.
